A DIG AT THE PATRIARCHY
Meet Malvani Didi ,a fellow Mumbai inhabitant who has been reliant on driving an auto for the past five years to get by each day. Every morning, the family's sole breadwinner, is frequently spotted driving an auto near the Santacruz Station (E).
What most struck me, though, was how deeply ingrained our society's patriarchal roots were when I was traveling.

While I was waiting for a ride, three autos came to a halt, one of which had Malvani Didi in it. As I stepped into the vehicle, I even heard slurs directed at me by male drivers. It was terrifying to see all the male drivers give her sidelong stares as she was driving.
When we were discussing this, she informed me that the other male drivers go all the way in believing women should not be allowed to operate rickshaws. This reflects her boldness and courage, which served as an early morning inspiration for me to work hard to achieve my goals.

My 15-minute journey, on the other hand, proved to be a game changer when Malvani didi, who despite facing some serious life challenges, smiled from ear to ear when I asked for a picture.
